Meet the team

New Wave Physio was founded in December 2010.Recently, it has been acquired by Natalie Bruce, who served as the lead clinical physiotherapist for the past 3 years.

MEET NATALIE

CLINIC OWNER
PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Natalie, who moved to England from sunny South Africa in February 2020, found her passion for physiotherapy after a knee ligament injury at the age of 13. With 14 years of experience, she has worked across various physiotherapy sectors, including hospitals, orthopedics, pediatrics, and neuro physio. However, her heart lies in musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain conditions.

Natalie had her own private clinic in South Africa prior to emigrating so when she was presented with the opportunity to buy the practice , she embraced the chance to run her own clinic.

Since 2020, Natalie has been an integral part of New Wave, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and skills. Her commitment to continuous learning is apparent through her completion of extensive postgraduate courses in Dry Needling, Strapping, Chronic Pain Management, Aquatic Therapy, and Neurological Developmental Therapy. She is also a APPI-trained Pilates instructor.

Natalie’s professional philosophy centers around a holistic approach to physiotherapy. She firmly believes that treating pain and dysfunction requires more than just hands-on intervention. Education and patient empowerment play pivotal roles, forming a comprehensive strategy aimed at helping individuals achieve their health and wellness goals. Natalie’s dedication to multifaceted care underscores her commitment to enhancing the lives of those she serves.

Outside of her clinical work from Tuesday to Friday, Natalie, a wife and mother of two energetic boys, dedicates time to Pilates classes on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

MEET AMY

SPORTS REHABILITATOR

In 2016, Amy accomplished a significant milestone by graduating as a Sports Rehabilitator with a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) from the University of Bolton. Since then, she has dedicated herself to building a rich tapestry of experience, working both with athletes and the general public.

After completing her degree Amy started working at New Wave. Having experienced a serious knee injury herself, she understands the journey of recovery firsthand and finds it incredibly fulfilling to witness the positive impact she makes on her patients lives.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Amy embraces an active lifestyle, demonstrating her passion for football as a dedicated player. Her unwavering support for Liverpool F.C. adds a touch of fervor to her sports engagement. When she is not watching football Amy enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, embarking on adventures and taking long walks with her trusty four-legged companion, Rueben.
Her holistic approach to both work and leisure embodies a balance that contributes to her effectiveness as a Sports Rehabilitator and enhances her overall well-being.

Amy works from Tuesday to Saturday.

MEET DEE

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Dee has successfully obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in both Sports rehabilitation and physiotherapy. During her time in the degree program and after, she was able to develop her clinical skills in the assessment and diagnosis of MSK conditions. She has done this by working in the NHS and with the academy and professional athletes in football, the national rugby league, and disabled Olympic runners.

Dee has over 7 years of experience working in professional sports, doing pitch side work, running clinical sessions, providing injury diagnosis and outdoor exercise rehabilitation, preoperative rehab, and screening players for potential injuries.
Dee is very competitive and loves competing in sports. She is an avid runner who likes all sports. 

Dee is very optimistic, enthusiastic, and passionate about providing the best care to all her patients, regardless of condition or ability. Committed to enhancing performance and well-being, she strives to offer the highest quality care for athletes and individuals seeking optimal physical health.

Dee’s clinic day is a Monday.

MEET ANDREA

SPECIALIST PHYSIOTHERAPIST IN PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL
PILATES AND REFORMER PILATES SPECIALIST

  • Andrea, a dedicated physiotherapist, graduated in 2010 from Manchester Metropolitan University. For a decade, she contributed her expertise to the NHS, specializing in musculoskeletal issues before transitioning to private practice, where she found her passion for Women’s Health.
  • With a profound belief in the transformative power of Pilates, Andrea sees it as a catalyst for fearless and pain-free movement. She utilizes Pilates to not only restore movement but also to instill confidence and enhance overall health and well-being.
  • Andrea’s ardor is especially evident in her commitment to empowering women throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journeys. She actively supports women in maintaining an active pregnancy and guides them in rebuilding strength ‘from the inside out’ post-childbirth.
  • As a fully qualified Matwork and Reformer Pilates teacher, Andrea has sought additional training in Women’s Health and Pre/Postnatal Pilates, offering specialized services such as Assessment for Pregnancy-Related Pelvic Girdle Pain, Postnatal Rehab, Diastasis Recti Assessment and Rehab, Pregnancy and Postnatal Pilates, C-Section Scar Therapy, and Return to Running screening.
  • Beyond her professional pursuits, Andrea finds joy in spending time with family and friends, indulging in outdoor activities and walks, regardless of the weather. She has a diverse love for holidays, ranging from sunny getaways to snowboarding adventures and city breaks.
  • Andrea’s qualifications include a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy and certification as an APPI Certified Pilates Instructor. Her commitment to continuous professional development is evident through various courses and CPD training, including APPI Matwork Pilates Levels 1, 2, 3, MBodies Reformer Training, and specialized courses such as Pregnancy-Related Pelvic Girdle Pain and Pilates Prenatal & Postpartum Guidelines & Considerations.
  • Andrea works on Monday, Tuesday and Friday and teaches a Pilates class on Friday morning.

MEET ALISON

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST & PILATES INSTRUCTOR

Alison brings a wealth of clinical expertise to her role as a Clinical Pilates instructor, having worked extensively as an Occupational Therapist with a primary focus on orthopaedics. Her professional journey includes valuable experience in managing hand injuries, rheumatology cases, and contributing to mental health settings.

Opting for early retirement, Alison discovered a newfound delight in becoming a trained clinical Pilates instructor. Her passion lies in making Pilates sessions not only beneficial but also accessible and enjoyable for all. Despite retiring, she remains connected to her roots, occasionally working shifts at the hospital, especially during busy periods or staff shortages—an occurrence that seems more frequent than not.

Beyond her professional commitments, Alison finds her true happiness in the great outdoors. Whether tending to her garden, conquering a hill, or idling by a river, she is in her element. A particular dream involves conducting Pilates sessions amidst the serenity of nature, ideally by a picturesque lake. Alison’s multifaceted journey reflects a dedication to both health care and holistic well-being, encapsulating a life where professional expertise meets a passion for outdoor tranquility.

MEET PAUL

SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPIST

While serving as a full-time firefighter, Paul cultivated Sports Massage as a passion. In 1998, he turned this avocation into a profession, graduating from Warrington Collegiate Institute.

With his newfound qualification, Paul seized the opportunity to collaborate with his close friend Andrew Pinkerton, the First Team Sports Massage Therapist for Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club. In this dynamic role, Paul primarily focused on delivering pre-event massages to the first-team players on game days. His responsibilities expanded to include post-event massages following games and during training sessions.

Paul’s expertise extended beyond local leagues; he played a crucial role in supporting England and Great Britain Rugby League test matches in 1998 and 2001. Notably, he provided massage therapy for the Brisbane Broncos during their participation in the World Club Challenge Final, showcasing his skills on an international stage.

Having retired from the Fire Service, Paul’s zest for physical activity endures. His pursuits now include a diverse range of activities, from running and circuit/weight training to leisurely walks. Paul’s journey exemplifies a seamless transition from firefighting to sports massage, showcasing his dedication to promoting well-being and optimal performance in athletes at various levels.

NIAMH TONER

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Niamh graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Physiotherapy in 2022. She has gained valuable experience working with a diverse range of clients and conditions within the public healthcare system. Niamh is committed to expanding her expertise in physiotherapy by pursuing rotational positions within the NHS, thereby enhancing her knowledge of physiotherapy interventions and ensuring a comprehensive approach to client care.

In addition to her physiotherapy qualifications, Niamh has also earned a Level 3 Sports Massage qualification, which complements her physiotherapy treatments. She is dedicated to staying current with the latest developments in healthcare by regularly attending training and keeping abreast of recent research.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Niamh is an avid enthusiast of an active lifestyle, frequently engaging in activities such as playing hockey and going to the gym. She also has a passion for travel and enjoys exploring new cuisines and culinary experiences.

ANNA SANGWINE

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Anna is a highly skilled physiotherapist with a wealth of experience, having graduated from Salford University in 2006. Her professional journey began in the NHS, where she dedicated several years to honing her craft. Following a brief career hiatus, Anna seized the opportunity to relocate to Singapore, where she further expanded her expertise.

During her time in Singapore, Anna made significant contributions to a hospital and various private practices, undergoing extensive international training and participating in specialized courses. It was in this vibrant healthcare environment that Anna’s passion for pelvic and hip pain emerged. She became adept at employing a holistic approach, combining manual therapies with tailored exercise rehabilitation to achieve sustainable, long-term improvements for her patients.

In 2022, Anna returned to the UK with her husband and young daughter. Currently, she juggles her time between part-time roles in the NHS and private practice, offering her valuable skills to a diverse range of patients.

Throughout her career, Anna has demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning, evidenced by her participation in various courses. Some of her notable accomplishments include completing the Polestar Pilates Rehabilitation teacher training course (covering Mat and all apparatus), acquiring proficiency in dry needling, mastering instrument-assisted deep tissue massage, and specializing in hip tendinopathy assessment and treatment. Her expertise also extends to hip rehabilitation, real-time ultrasound imaging for lumbar and hip stability, and strength and conditioning.
